CLASSIFICATION: 12 Month Support Staff STATUS:                   Non-Exempt

 

JOB SUMMARY: Ensure a safe and clean environment conducive to learning for all students, staff, and visitors.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Responsible for opening the building, this includes turning off alarm, turning on lights, raising flag, inspecting the work of night custodians, and checking the boiler room.
  • Supervise the performance of all day custodians, ensuring duties and responsibilities are being met.
  • Prepare a schedule for custodians of upcoming events.
  • Prepare and organize a schedule for summer clean-up to ensure the building is ready for opening day.
  • Receive, check-in, and distribute all books, teacher supplies, and school supplies.
  • Prepare the building for daytime activities/events by setting up tables and chairs as needed.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Maintain an inventory of janitorial supplies and order supplies necessary to fulfill the custodial duties.
  • Perform monthly fire drills.
  • Assist with snow removal and the removal of trash in the cafeteria.
  • Assist with the recruitment, interviewing, and assignment of custodial staff.
  • Prepare sports fields and lawn maintenance.

MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain an inventory of janitorial supplies and order supplies necessary to fulfill the custodial duties.
  • Maintain communication with administrators regarding any major issues that need to be addressed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance and Facilities or Building Principal.




QUALIFICATIONS: One (1) year experience in custodial services preferred 

High School diploma or equivalent necessary

Must possess basic knowledge and understanding of building operating systems and regulator codes  

Must be able to read and interpret operation and maintenance manuals 

Knowledge and understanding of various cleaning chemicals is necessary

Submission of pre-employment medical examination (Section 148 of the Pennsylvania School Code)

Submission of a report of criminal history record from the Pennsylvania State Police (Section 111 of the Pennsylvania School Code)

Submission of a clearance report from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare in accordance with Act 151 of 1994

Submission of Federal Criminal History Record in accordance with Act 114 of 2006

Submission of the Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form as required under Act 24 of 2011

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to reach above and below the waist  

Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects

Bending and twisting of the body required  

Ability to lift and/or carry supplies weighing 75 lbs. or more

Ability to climb, crouch, stoop, kneel, and crawl 

Ability to mostly walk, stand or move throughout the workday

 

SENSORY ABILITIES: Visual acuity

Auditory acuity

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions

Must be able to work in extreme cold (32 degrees or less) and extreme heat (90 degrees or more)

Subject to physical hazards, including conditions that may affect the respiratory system and/or skin.  

 

TEMPERAMENT: Must be able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions

Able to receive oral communication and convey details or important instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly
